John’s deep experience with historic preservation comes from his work on over two dozen projects in buildings listed on the National Register or contributing to historic districts including award-winning renovations to the South Carolina State Museum and South Carolina State University’s Lowman Hall. Along with higher educational work, federal work has also been a focus using his extensive knowledge of the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards as well as federal standards. An active volunteer in the community, John is currently on the Board of Directors for the Midlands Housing Trust Fund. In addition, John was appointed in 2015 to represent the state chapter of AIA on the Energy Independence and Sustainable Construction Advisory Committee. A native of Iowa, John moved to Columbia and joined the firm in 2003 after two years overseas and two years in Chicago. John, his wife (a Columbia native he met overseas), and their 3 lively daughters are happiest spending quality time together in their home John designed.
